The Sober Medic ("I", "me") is run by Mark. People who get in touch are often sharing something personal, so I take looking after your information seriously. This page explains what I collect, why, and what your rights are under UK GDPR.
What I collect
When you answer the Start here questions, send an enquiry, arrange an initial conversation or join the mailing list, I collect what you give me: your name, email address, phone number, your answers, and anything you choose to write about your situation. Some of this may be health information, which the law treats as special category data. I only use it with your consent, and only to reply to you and to provide coaching.
How I use it
- To reply to your message and arrange a call.
- To provide coaching sessions if we agree to work together.
- To send occasional emails, only if you've ticked the separate box to say yes. Getting in touch doesn't add you to a mailing list. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Who sees it
Your information is seen by me and nobody else. I never sell it or share it for marketing. I use a small number of trusted services to run the business, such as Calendly for bookings, an email provider and a mailing list tool. They only process data on my behalf and keep it secure.
Confidentiality and safety
What you say in coaching stays between us. The only exception is if I believe you or someone else is at serious risk of harm. In that case I may need to contact emergency services, and where possible I'll talk to you about it first.
How long I keep it
Enquiries that don't lead to coaching are deleted within 12 months. Coaching notes are kept for as long as we work together and for a reasonable time after, then deleted. You can ask me to delete your information at any time.
Cookies
This site uses a few essential cookies and browser storage so it works properly, for example to remember your cookie choice and that you've already seen the email sign-up. With your permission it may also use simple analytics to understand which pages are useful. The booking calendar from Calendly may set its own cookies when you use it. .
Your rights
You can ask to see the information I hold about you, correct it, delete it, or withdraw your consent at any time. Email thesobermedic@gmail.com and I'll sort it. If you're unhappy with how your data has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
